“Exceeding great and precious promises have been given to us SO THAT…” 2 Peter 1:4
I love the “SO THAT” verses in Scripture! They are like markers to draw my attention to cause-and-effect relationships in the teachings of Jesus. I hear often and speak often of the promises in the Bible. I love them; I’ve memorized many of them; I refer to them often. They are, in fact, “exceedingly great and precious!” Today I see yet another reason why they are so “great and precious.” They’ve been given to me SO THAT two things can happen in my life:
1. “I can participate in the divine nature”
2. “I can escape the corruption that is in the world through impure passions.”
WOW! That’s pretty “great and precious,” to think that through God’s promises I can “participate” in the actual nature of God. Other versions say things like “become a partaker in,” “be filled with,” “to share in,” “to grow through.” Whatever the translation, I can, through the promises of God, be connected in a very special way with the actual nature of my God. That’s pretty cool!
AND, through those same “great and precious promises” I can escape the junk of this world! That, in my opinion makes them not just great promises, it makes the “EXCEEDING great promises!!” As I sit here typing this morning here are some of the “promises” that come to my mind and heart:
I will never leave you or forsake you
If anyone lacks wisdom let him ask God and it will be given him
You will seek Me and find Me when you seek for Me with all your hearts
Let not your heart be troubled, believe in Me
Trust in the Lord with all your heart….And He will direct your path
I’ll bet you could think of more! Realizing the two amazing SO THAT results that come from His “exceeding great and precious promises,” which ones will fill your life today? Why not spend a little reflective time on the ones that come to your mind and find out!
Have a great day discovering what’s exceedingly great and precious in God’s word,
Pastor Rich
Quote for the day: “Dear God, if today I lose my hope, please remind me that Your plans are better than my dreams.”
