Church Life News

Our speaker this week is Tracy Wood, the Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministries for the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists. He is speaking at CVC today as part of Union College's "PowerPac" weekend, one of several weekends of spiritual emphasis on campus.

Note of Sadness: This past Sunday night Karen Roehl passed into her rest, awaiting Jesus' return. A service to honor her will be held at CVC on the afternoon of October 9. Please remember her grieving family in your prayers.

Children's SS Needs: Are you looking for a way to make a great impact at CVC? Our Children’s Sabbath School classes are in need of dedicated individuals to help shape the hearts of our young children. If you love sharing Jesus and spending time with children, this would be a wonderful opportunity to serve! We are looking for a leader in Kindergarten 2 (grades K-1), and our Primary Class (grades 2-4) is seeking several more teachers. For more information please contact Tori Henton at 417.766.3544.

Ministry Opportunity: College View Church is looking for those interested in greeting before each service and Sabbath School on Sabbath mornings. We try to schedule greeters for not more than once a month. The qualifications for greeting include being pleasant and happy to meet others as they enter our church doors. Pathfinder Registration is still open…. It is not too late to register! Bring your Pathfinder to the club meeting Wednesday night at 6:15pm.

Thank you for your giving! Our Church Ministries Budget is the "family budget" here at CVC. While tithe directly supports the work of our pastors, the Church Ministries Budget funds youth ministries, digital outreach, Adventist education and so much more. So far this year we have given $321,367 toward the budget we adopted as a church family for 2021. That's 3/4 toward our year-to-date goal of $416,900. Thank you for your giving! You may make a donation online, in our weekly worship service, at the front office, or at the dropbox at the southeastern door.

Moms Cafe is meeting again is Thursday, September 16th, at Tierra Park playground at 9:30am, and we'll have some good snack food for you. We hope you will come join us and build your tribe! Moms Cafe is designed for moms of kids ages 0-12. You don't need to bring a child with you to attend. See you in a couple weeks!

LEGO Robotics: The CVA Home & School Association is reviving our LEGO Robotics after-school club for students in grades 2-8, and are looking for volunteers. The club will meet on Tuesdays 3-4:30 pm, every other week for grades 2-5, and every week for grades 6-8. We are needing both Head Coaches who will prepare for the sessions, and Team Leaders who will just show up to assist their team of four students in following the directions of the Head Coach. Please reach out to Matthew Roque (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or Eric Olson (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) if you are interested in volunteering to support this great STEM opportunity for CVA students!

Children’s choir is meeting again this Sabbath, 11:30-11:50am! Children ages 3-12 are welcome to register. This year we are excited to be working on a Christmas musical and play! If your child or a child you know has a special interest in singing and/or participating in a play, please register. We would love to have them! We will be asking for a free-will offering to cover costs of a practice CD and choir T-shirt. Donations can be made at time of registration or to our church office. You can also mark your tithe envelope for Children’s Choir. Any amount is welcome as we are starting a budget specifically for this ministry!

Prayer Focus: Church family, as we arise for each new day may Jesus be on our minds. “The very first outbreathing of the soul in the morning should be for the presence of Jesus. ‘Without Me’ He says, ‘you can do nothing.’ It is Jesus that we need; His light, His life, His Spirit, must be ours continually. We need Him every hour. It is the desire of the Lord that from moment to moment we should abide in Him, and thus be complete in Him.” (My Life Today, 15)❣️Dina Horst

Vespers at Woodland Acres: The next vespers at Woodland Acres is September 18 at 7pm. This will be our last regularly scheduled vespers for this season. Please watch for information coming soon about our fall vespers that will be in late October. We always have lots of treats and lots of fun, hope you can join us then!

Kathy Goddard Retirement: After more than 50 years in teaching and service Kathy Goddard retired this year. Her children would like to invite you to help us honor her, by providing a memory or statement about Kathy. We are asking you to consider and respond to the question: “How has Kathy influenced you or your life?" If you have photos of you and/or you with Kathy please feel free to share them as well. We would ideally love a handwritten letter answering this question, but you can also just email her son James at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Your responses will be printed and placed in a bound book that we will present to Kathy some time soon. Thanks so much for your consideration. ---Tom, Luna and James Goddard

Upcoming Concert: We are excited to announce there will be a Selah concert here at CVC on September 26. You can buy tickets at Tell all your friends! We want to fill the sanctuary.

Israel Tour 2022: Are you interested in walking where Jesus and other Bible characters lived and walked? Join Pastor Rich on a tour of Israel next summer, June 26 - July 4, 2022. We'll take a boat on the Sea of Galilee and walk the streets of Jerusalem. We'll see Bethlehem and the remains of Jericho. We'll float on the Dead Sea and see where David hid from Saul, and even see the place where he slew Goliath! And if you want to extend your trip by a week, we're going to visit Jordan and see the city of Petra and sleep in a tent at a Bedouin camp in the same area where Moses lead the people for forty years through the desert (don't worry: it's a nicer tent than Moses had!), then on to Egypt to climb Mt Sinai and experience a Sabbath sunrise from its summit and later visit the Pyramids. We will be offering religion credit for the trip so theology students or anyone else can receive academic advancement while being blessed by the one place in all the world that I have visited that I would go back to as often as possible. It has changed my personal understanding and application of the Bible story more every time I go. If you are interested, please email me (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) so I can get you on our list and keep you updated as we make plans. Seats are filling fast and we only have 40 total spots. I look forward to you joining Kenna Lee and me as we devotionally, historically, geographically, and culturally experience the place where Jesus walked. Hope to see you on the plane next June!
